Improvisation is anything that is created without preparation. In theatre, the ability to improve becomes crucial, as ANYTHING can happen in a live performance! Actors could miss cues (either not appearing on stage or missing sections of important dialogue), props can be misplaced, music could cut out, or actors could forget dance moves. In order to respond in these situations, actors need the ability to “think on their feet” and react to any situation presented to them. In addition, improvisation is the basis for a lot of comedic skits. Ever watch “Whose Line is it Any Way” or attended a 2nd City presentation? Improvisation is also used in the business world to help with communication skills. Come learn this useful craft and have fun learning!
