Set sail with us in Moana JR., a powerful and inspiring musical adventure about courage, identity, and discovering who you’re meant to be. Follow Moana as she leaves her island home to save her people and learns to trust herself along the way. With beloved songs, exciting storytelling, and rich Polynesian-inspired rhythms, this show is full of energy and heart. From playful village life to epic ocean journeys, there are so many vibrant moments to bring to life onstage. The ensemble helps create waves, creatures, and the world of the island, making every performer essential to the story. Whether you love singing, acting, dancing, or being part of a big creative team, there’s a place for you. Come “sea” yourself in Moana JR. and help make waves on stage!

Ages

8-18

Note: While the age range for this class is 8-18, Not Just Dance reserves the right to change the minimum age for this class, based on registrations in order to create the best possible experience for all students.

Auditions

This is a musical theatre class designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of performance in a fun and supportive environment.

Auditions will be held in class. Students will be taught songs, sides and choreography- based on which parts they are most interested in, they will be given appropriate choices, from Moana JR to use as part of their audition.

Audition dates are Tuesday Sept 29th or Thursday Oct 1st

Class Day & Time

Tuesday OR Thursday from 6 pm – 8 pm.

Students are encouraged to enroll in dance classes and in music classes at school or take private voice lessons. More specific requirements may be placed on specific roles.

Fees

A registration fee is due at the time of enrollment.
A performance fee will be charged on November 1, 2026. This fee includes:
- A performance t-shirt
- A Blu-ray of the production
- Two tickets to the performance
- Costume cleaning and rental fees

Tuition

Tuition is divided into equal monthly payments, regardless of how many classes are held in a given month.
- The first tuition payment will be processed at registration
- Remaining payments will be charged on the 1st of each month, from September 2026 through May 2027

Important: This is a performance-based class. The last date to drop the class is October 31, 2026. Please see our policies for financial obligations when the class is dropped prior to or after the “date to drop” date.
All fees—including tuition, registration, and performance fees—are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Moana JR Cast Descriptions:

Moana

The vibrant, tenacious, and optimistic daughter of Motunui’s chief. She struggles to reconcile her father’s plans for her to take over as the village chief with her own desires to voyage beyond the reef. Ultimately, Moana proves a compassionate and capable leader. Must be an actor who can portray great maturity, possesses incredible energy, a fun sense of humor, and can confidently deliver songs like “How Far I’ll Go.”

Maui

A demigod and master wayfinder with charisma to spare and a reputation of being a trickster. Despite his hard exterior, Maui becomes a wonderful friend and mentor to Moana throughout their journey. Must be an actor with great comic timing who can portray this shapeshifter’s larger-than-life personality through big gestures and high energy, making moments like “You’re Welcome” true showstoppers.

Chief Ancestors (1-3)

Chief Ancestors (1-3) are the three ancient leaders of Motunui. They guide Moana on her quest and narrate her story through speaking and singing solos. These ancestors should be animated storytellers who have excellent diction.

Gramma Tala

Moana’s wise grandmother and the mother of Chief Tui. She is the village storyteller known for being eccentric and dancing to the beat of her own drum. Must be a playful actor and singer who can balance comic timing in “Where You Are (Part 2)” with heartfelt sincerity in “Song of the Ancestors.”

Chief Tui
Sina

Moana’s supportive mother. She is compassionate, perceptive, and strong-willed, and trusts her daughter to make the right decisions. With both speaking and singing solos, must be a confident singer and actor who can embody a mature and respected leader.

Pua

Moana’s fiercely loyal friend. Pua always supports Moana – even if it means facing her own fears. Must be an actor who is also a confident singer who can make Pua’s moments in “Where You Are (Part 2),”“How Far I’ll Go,” and “We Know the Way (Finale)” stand out.

Hei Hei

Moana’s not-so-bright friend. Hei Hei is well- meaning, but naive. Must be an actor who can portray Hei Hei’s innocence and own both speaking and singing solos in “Where You Are (Part 2),”“How Far I’ll Go,” and “We Know the Way (Finale).”

Tamatoa

The vicious and egotistical giant crab who lives in Lalotai, the Realm of Monsters. Tamatoa enjoys gathering shiny baubles to add to an ever-growing collection. For this self-centered crab with a keen sense of showmanship, we will look for an actor who isn’t afraid to own the stage and really shine.
