I wanted to say congratulations on another two amazing shows, and thank you all so much for all of your work on Sweeney Todd and Chicago. I have enjoyed every show I’ve seen at NJD, and these two are no exception. I love that your students have the opportunity to perform in challenging shows, and you are giving them the tools and confidence to rise to the occasion.
I was impressed with how well the students handled the music in Sweeney Todd, as I know how difficult Sondheim is to sing. Amazing job working with them on this music. I loved the costuming and hair and make-up in the show. It really added to the dark theming. And while this was a dark show, I enjoyed all of the comedic elements, and the kids did a great job with that as well.
I’m blown away at every show with what you are able to create with students in your tech classes. I love how students are involved in every aspect of the show, and what they create is incredible. I loved Mrs. Lovett’s Pie shop, and the chair was amazing! My favorite part was “Kiss Me, Part 2”, as I loved the timing of everything going on onstage while they were singing, especially with the chair.
Chicago may be my favorite show I’ve seen that Laila has participated in anywhere. The blocking and staging, the dancing, the singing, the costuming, the set, it was all just incredible. The backdrop in lights was amazing. It was just such a fun show to see.
Thank you for giving Laila the opportunity to stretch herself this year and play two very different roles. Johanna was a very different role than anything she had done before, and I know the lyrical soprano music was a challenge for her. Thank you for helping her to gain confidence in her abilities and realize what she is capable of. It was so fun to see Laila as Roxie, and thank you for helping her to embody that role and continue to grow and learn. I have been so proud to see her growth in every show that she has done, and I thank you all for everything you’ve done, as I know that you are all a big part of the growth and improvement I’ve seen, both in her skills and in her confidence in performing.
Thank you also for the family you’ve created at Not Just Dance, and for welcoming Laila into that family. It is wonderful to have a place for her to grow and learn and always be accepted.
